Could you please also add support for color schemes? Right now it uses a fixed color, but for some windows I override the background color setting. Many themes respect this, but in Adapta it seems like the color is hardcoded. I tried using fill:currentColor and then setting the class to ColorScheme-Background but this makes the background turn black for some reason. - Apr 02 2018

I'd change the way permissions are shown to the user. Many users (especially non-tech) will be clueless about -rw-r--r--, so instead visualize it by means of icons. Three groups, each having 3 icons. Then it would be perfect :) - Jun 03 2005

As y'all might have noticed, there was no new release last weekend. That's because I've been working on a website at http://clearlooks.sourceforge.net. It will contain a voting booth where you can vote for concepts. And maybe some other suprises, too :)

Thank you very much for your comment. I have been running the half-rounded scrollbar theme for a few days now, and it hasn't bothered me at all, even though I run Firefox a lot :)

So I'll probably keep the half rounded (rounded only at the outside) look for the next version. Maybe eventually the Firefox people will try to make their app behave a little better. - Jan 31 2005

I don't know why, but I kind of like the whole rounded look of the scrollbars now. I tried it before, but I thought it looked stupid... If I still like it tomorrow, I'm going with this look.

You should choose 'Theme Details' in gnome-theme-manager and then in the 'Controls' tab there should be a few Clearlooks themes.

If that's not the case, make sure you installed it with --prefix=/usr. If you did and it still doesn't work, then please let me know and I'll install Ubuntu Hoary (what a horrible name). - Jan 27 2005

Guess what, I just finished adding the new scrollbars! I'm not releasing it just yet, though (probably saturday).

But not all is good. Firefox is really pissing me off lately. Every kind of 'trick' that I perform to give Clearlooks a polished look is failing miserably. While most 'artifacts' aren't clearly visible and won't bother anyone but the nitpicker, the scrollbars are a greater deal.

It's TERRIBLE! Firefox doesn't tell me the position of the scrollbars, so I can't determine whether a scrollbutton is the first of last button on the scrollbar. The result is that rounding isn't applied, so they look squared. This most likely happens with OpenOffice.org as well, since they are both very bad at pretending to be GTK+ apps.

But that's not all... I'm not sure if I like the half-rounded look of the scrollbars...

There are four things I can do now:
1) don't care about firefox, keep the roundings.
2) keep it squared like it was.
3) think of something else
4) make all corners rounded (like industrial)

Please let me know what you guys 'n girls think!

If you've got a good idea for a scrollbar, please email me some mockups!

If you want, you can disable the 'deep' menubar by editing /usr/share/themes/ClearlooksGreen/gtk-2.0/gtkrc.
Look for the line that says "sunkenmenubar = 1" and change it to "sunkenmenubar = 0".

I'm sorry to report that 0.2 still has those hideous scrollbars... It appears to be a pita to figure out whether I'm drawing the top/left or bottom/right button, since they are both called the same...

Progressbar and menu(item)s are rounded this time, and the gradients are slightly different too.

I have changed the menuitem highlight to make it more round. It looks better now.

I'm not sure if making the contrast lighter will make the theme look better per se. It might make it harder to focus on the button, but I'm not sure.

I have had an idea for the scrollbar, but I haven't been able to realize it yet. If you look at the mockup at http://www.stellingwerff.com/clearlooks/scrollbar2.png then you can see what I had in mind. It's not a big change, but it does look better. Rounding all the edges is feasable, but does not look as nice.

First of all, thank you for your comment! I just had a look at the gnome-theme-manager, but the scrollbar through does not cross the text. Now, this might be a difference in GTK+ version. Which version of GTK+ 2 are you using?

Even though I can't reproduce the issue, I still have an idea how I could fix it. But if I can reproduce it with the same version of GTK+ you have, it'll be easier to fix :)

Also, which distribution are you using? It might be that some distro-specific patches are doing nasty things...

Now, about the menu highlight... Making it customizable is certainly possible. At least, choosing between two (or more) different styles is. If you could give me some ideas about a highlight style that would look nice, I'll be willing to try to implement it :) - Jan 09 2005

You probably thought so because I said "unlike _other_ pixmap based" but that's not what I meant. It's a pure C based engine, based on the Bluecurve code, and thus quite fast :)
