Wow!! Your desktop looks great!!

Here's the screenshot.

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/2865/screenb.png

I've circled the area I'm referring to in red. It just looks too shiny. I would prefer a matte gradient (maybe even solid color) background.

Thanks so much Luxie!! - Apr 30 2010
I like the updates in the new release. I've made some minor tweaks to get it the way that I like it (removed the shadow in the menu bar, shortened the gap between tabs, etc.) One think I can't figure out how to change is the shininess in the background for a selected tree item. It's too shiny for my taste. Any suggestions? If you need to see what I'm talking about, I can post a pic somewhere.

Thanks for your great work on this theme. It's severely under appreciated. - Apr 29 2010
Thanks for the fix. It looks great!! :-) - Apr 15 2010
This is a surprisingly underrated them. I think it looks fantastic. The only issue that I've seen is that the menu bar doesn't seem to blend with the rest of the theme. Is that intentional or is there something wrong with my computer? - Apr 14 2010

The wallpaper is a response to the decades (probably much longer) of sexual abuse inflicted by Catholic priests on children. The Vatican has done everything in its power to keep the abuse scandals under raps, going as far as moving priests suspected of molestation to other parishes to evade justice. This abuse has been going on for a long time and it has only been recently that the pope has even acknowledged the existence of the problem, while not actually making any changes or calling for any resignations of priests.

To put it short, mtax is making a humorous, but direct statement concerning many's feelings about the abuse scandals covered up by the church. - Mar 24 2010
Absolutely! I was raised Methodist by my very devout Christian father, but around my late teens I slowly started researching things more for myself and came to the conclusion of Atheism. One of the biggest things that turned me to Atheism was the Bible. If you read the whole thing, not just what they talk to you about in church, the book is clearly full of holes, contradictions and outright inhumane behavior.

I am in no way hard nosed that there is no god. I don't know if there is or isn't and I'm more than capable of becoming convinced. Right now, I don't see sufficient evidence and until that time, my default position is disbelief.

We can agree to disagree, but I would encourage you to look into this stuff for yourself. Figure out, if you don't already know, why you believe what you believe and constantly challenge your understanding of your beliefs. If you have any questions with regards to Atheism, I'd be more than happy to discuss with you. - Mar 24 2010
Your science book may have talked about the evolutions of species as it relates to linear time and in which case, yes, rats appeared before humans. However, this is not the same as saying humans came from rats. Evolution of species is best shown in a tree structure. Although rats came before humans, rats are on a completely different evolutionary branch than humans.

See this link for an example (I couldn't find one that plots the tree overtime, but this clearly shows primates and rodents on different evolutionary branches).

I don't think anyone is saying that life just appeared. We're not sure exactly how life started on earth. We're also not sure where all of the matter in the universe came from. However, just because we don't know doesn't mean we're justified in making up a god to answer that question. God is a non-answer with regard to creation as his existence requires explanation (ie what created god?). If you're going to posit a god that always existed and created everything, wouldn't it be even more concise to just posit that the universe and everything in it already existed and go from there? - Mar 24 2010
Being able to disprove the existence of god is contingent on your particular definition of god.

Additionally, there is no demonstroble evidence for the existence of a god so there is no reason to believe even if you can't disprove his existence. There is as much evidence for a god as there is unicorns or fairies. If you were to believe in anything that cannot be directly disproven, you would end up believing all kinds of nonsense. The default position is disbelief until such time as sufficient evidence can be presented to inspire belief. The burden of proof is on believers to prove the existence of god. - Mar 24 2010
I didn't see this part of the thread so I'll repost by comment here...

Evolution doesn't say we "came from monkeys". Evolution says we share a common ancestor. If you're simply asking where did monkeys come from, they came from their ancestors. If you're asking where did life come from, that's not a question answered by evolution. Evolution is simply an explanation of the diversity of life.

The origin of life is covered by a topic called abiogensis. Scientists aren't currently sure how life began on earth but they do know that it is possible for life to come from non-life as they have been able to produce the building blocks of life, amino acids, from non-life in a controlled environment. - Mar 24 2010

Citation please. Please show me a peer reviewed, scientific publication that states that humans came from rats. - Mar 24 2010
I promised myself that I wouldn't get involved, but seeing some of the comments on this thread, I feel compelled to speak out.

Sir, evolution is NOT "just a theory" you obviously have no concept of what a theory is. Evolution is on the same playing field as gravitational THEORY and atomic THEORY. Are you suggesting that gravity and atoms do not exist? - Mar 23 2010

I don't know if this is the place for those types of artwork either. This is not a politcal website, it's a website for giant nerds who like Linux (I am among those nerds) :-).

I don't mean any offense I was just stating my opinion. You're entitled to post whatever you want as long as you don't violate any terms of service on the site. Again, I agree with your sentiment. - Mar 22 2010

I like this a lot. It's just what I've been looking for for my desktop. Also, nice weather plasmoid :-).

Once thing, where did you get the icons in your folderview for movies? Those look like some of the original concept designs for the Oxygen icons that I like MUCH better than the ones that are currently in KDE4. Could you tell me where I can get those style folder icons?

Again, great work!! - Aug 15 2008

That's correct. Plasma is under constant, extensive change right now. Because of this, many of the methods and method signatures from the version of plasma that comes with KDE 4.0.x have changed drastically in KDE 4.1. I have coded this using the latest version of Plasma so that I could take advantage of some of the newer features.

I hope this helps to clarify. - Jul 18 2008

See the comment above. - Jul 11 2008
That's very strange. The naming convention for the icon theme has changed entirely, so if you're using an older version of an icon set, that might cause the issue you're describing. Just as a test, can you download the icon best theme and try and point the plasmoid to use that theme? Let me know if that changes anything for you. - Jul 11 2008
I'm unable to reproduce the error by doing that. - Jul 10 2008
Yes, it's due to some inconsistencies in the naming conventions that the Yahoo! Weather API uses. I've converted the code over to for weather codes as opposed to weather event names. This should alleviate the problems caused by the inconsistencies. It should be fixed in the latest version.

Thanks for the report. - Jul 10 2008
Yikes that's pretty hot!! :-)

Can you give me steps to reproduce the error? - Jul 09 2008
Oh, I thought you thought it was too infrequent. I didn't think it would be a good idea to run the query more than every five minutes. I think 6 to 12 hours might be way too much time between queries though. The weather can change quite a bit in 6 - 12 hours. :-)

I'll try to make it configurable in a future release though. - Jul 09 2008
