It seems there has been some improvement since then.
Now I have my custom text "Kubuntu 20.04" displayed when there's no active app/window, and there is no such empty space (having an app icon also seems a good idea). Thanks again! - May 23 2020

1. Open "~/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.uswitcher/contents/ui/main.qml"
2. Modify this line as follows: + suspendButton.height + leaveButton.height + rebootButton.height + shutdownButton.height
2. Finally modify the following last lines, save the file, log out and back in:
ListDelegate {

text: i18nc("Show a dialog with options to logout/shutdown/restart", "Leave...")

9 excellent!
Add icon for "New Session" ("system-switch-user"), change the icon for "Suspend" to "system-suspend", change "Leave..." to "Log Out.." (as well as its icon), and finall also add "Reboot" and "Shutdown" items (with corresponding icons), then you have 100% perfection. Thanks to open source I have achieved this already. ;-)

8 great!
Unfortunately -2 for the problem of spacing between "App/Window Icon/Name/Title" and the "Global Menu" widget which I use. Manual spacing is not OK because the width of the first part varies a lot, and you often get the Global Menu oddly positioned. The other "full width" option doesn't produce a good result that works well with the "Global Menu" widget either. The widget "Window Title" offers a better solution in this respect although it has far fewer options otherwise. - Feb 22 2020

I use the following script when I switch between one of your cursor themes :-)

I thought I might share this simple bash script (to be used by simply entering appropriate values displayed with a strong emphasis) here as it might perhaps be helpful for some users of Ubuntu/Gnome Desktop Environments:

Quote:
#!/bin/bash
# Add the cursor theme to the corresponding group of alternatives
sudo update-alternatives --install "/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme" x-cursor-theme "$HOME/.icons/<CursorThemeName>/index.theme" <CursorSize>
# Choose the cursor theme
sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme
# Apply the user's cursor theme
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-theme <CursorThemeName>
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size <CursorSize>
# Modify the user's .Xresources file
sed -i "s/^Xcursor\.theme\:\s*.\+$/Xcursor\.theme\: <CursorThemeName>/g" "$HOME/.Xresources"

Cursors by markitos66 19 comments

I think it's a bright idea to make an "all-in-one" cursor theme, but - as it often happens with such bright new ideas - developers of this or that desktop environment are not yet ready for this it seems ;-)

The problem with Unity is the cursor size setting.

Unity does not provide this setting in its shiny GUI! You have to enter a terminal command like "gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 35" (for a medium-size sky-blue cursor) which apparently Unity does not like ;-) Probably developers thought they should correct any possible wrong setting that might be entered by users. So after each login this cursor-size is automatically "corrected" by changing it to 24!

I think this should be considered as a Unity bug as they should allow users to use any sensible size for their cursor.

But until they change this behavior it seems Unity users should either choose another cursor theme or add a small startup script to apply this "unusual" cursor-size every time they login. - Apr 10 2016

That's interesting, because when I use GTX theme as is, my Unity panel (Ubuntu 15.10) appears as if it has been omitted, i.e. with a solid blue background.
And when I uncomment the contents of unity.css file, I looks like the window title bars with the exception of an almost invisible title text, e.g. Ubuntu Desktop.
That's why I've made such a suggestion.

On the other hand, Unity Panel background is of course a matter of personal preference, and can be easily customized. It's entirely up to you how to make the default setting.
I personally prefer it to look exactly the same as window title bars for the sake consistency with the appearance one gets when any window is maximized. - Mar 10 2016

Thanks a lot for this update.

As you might know, trastes, the author of the legendary Mediterranean Themes has been unfortunately nowhere in sight for some time, and there have also been 2 (sort-lived) attempts to keep that nice theme suite going.

http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Medilight?content=167422 (it seems vinceliuice lost interest in the theme)
https://github.com/rbrito/mediterranean-gtk-themes (it seems rbrito also lost interest in the theme)

So I very much hope you can continue maintaining this superb theme (perhaps without enlarging it too much ;-)

As a form of support, I'll be glad to make suggestions like this:

unity.css: content needs to be uncommented, and also the .unity-panel section needs Quote:color: @theme_fg_dark_color;
text-shadow: 0px 1px @theme_shadow_dark_color; to be appended to make change the current white title to black. - Mar 06 2016

This theme looks perfect even under Ubuntu 15.10, but there might be a couple of things to do so as to achieve real perfection, and it seems non-flat buttons in gedit toolbar (and some other apps) is one of them.

I agree with those graphic designers who treat the File Manager as an app and therefore create an app icon for it instead of simply using the generic folder icon from the "places" sub-directory. And I think one of the best FM app icons (if not the best) is the one created for Ubuntu recently by "thieum".

So, if I may, here's a blue variant (although far from perfect) to match this great icon theme: https://www.dropbox.com/s/aisy3i95w5ogsq4/Emerald_system-file-manager.svg?dl=0 - Nov 15 2015

Changing the last section in "./apps/unity.css" as follows fixes this a bit - I think it's impossible to make them 100% same:

border-width: 2px 0 0 0;
border-radius: 6px 6px 0 0;

I understand that there are two approaches to check-boxes and radio-buttons at the moment: (1) showing only the selected/enabled ones (e.g. Snowbird, Greybird, etc.) and (2) showing all (e.g. Zukitwo, Vertex Light).

I personally think the second approach is more useful as there are quite a few cases when the user is left quite in the dark about the choices available when you can't see a check-box or radio-button that you can select unless you are very familiar with that application/tool.
I think the understandable choice for a cleaner workspace shouldn't make life difficult for average user.
Of course, the final decision is yours ;-)
Perhaps the users can just use a tweak for this (maybe by providing a simple script to enable/disable such a feature?) - Nov 09 2015

I liked this theme more than similar others (e.g. Greybird, Zukitwo, Vertex Light).
However there's a minor problem with thunderbird which doesn't exist in others (maybe necessary tweak can be found by having a look at them) and it is that thin line popping up when you click the application menu that appears on the title bar when you hover on it.
BTW we also have that line permanently from the start (i) in TB addressbook and compose windows, (ii) between toolbar and tabbar in some GTK2 apps (excluding Chrome browser), and (iii) between standard and format toolbars in LibreOffice). - Nov 09 2015

On second thought, I personally decided that avoiding Breeze-style icons in the tray (Ubuntu top panel) will be better for consistency there. Otherwise it's very difficult (at least now) to change all icons appearing there - e.g. my-weather-indicator and many others who use their own traditional mono-dark or mono-light icons with no matching Breeze-style alternatives. - Nov 07 2015

Thanks a lot for this.

1) I think Breeze-style Dropbox status icons would look better. I tried but couldn't do better than this clumsy thing:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/b0xs3ecnk0iv1pq/breeze-dropbox-status.zip?dl=0
But I still can see a glimpse of the previous (fallback) black dropbox when syncing in addition to my blue Breeze-style one.

2) The "/status/symbolic" directory needs clipboard manager icons (for example, I've copied "edit-paste.svg" as "clipit-trayicon.svg") and redshift status icons (I've copied those from Nitrux theme)

3) I've got a better (I think) Desktop folder icon after I deleted all copies of that mime-type icon (/apps/scalable/desktop.svg, cs-desktop.svg, preferences-desktop-wallpaper.svg, show-desktop.svg, user-desktop.svg, utilities-desktop-extra.svg and /categories/scalable/preferences-desktop-tweaks.svg) and I think it might even look better in the same blue color as folder icons.

4) The main Emerald theme lacks indicator-keyboard-LANG icons that are present in Emerald Dark - I think they would look better in Breeze style.

5) Finally, Synaptic Package Manager toolbar has a color icon for "Mark All Upgrades" unlike others. - Nov 06 2015
Thanks a lot!
I think it's much better now, getting closer to perfection :-)
Another improvement suggestion:
If you look at the toolbars in a number of applications (e.g. LibreOffice, gedit, Chrome, Synaptic) in different modes (focussed, hover, unfocussed) you can see that they are not consistent. ( I think the look of gedit toolbar is the worst and LibreOffice is the best ;-)
Maybe you might like to make all these have the same looks in the next version.
I think this theme is now getting much better than Ambiance and it might well deserve a name on its own (and even get its own - better matching - window control buttons in due course). - Oct 29 2015
Just a couple of tweaks could make this theme even better than the original (Ambiance) such as:

1. Removing black outlines in the toolbar of Gedit, etc. (perhaps in window control buttons as well) - maybe replacing them with a little darker shade of the background color?

2. Using the same toolbar bgcolor for Synaptic Package Manager and GTK2 apps. - Oct 27 2015

Thanks for this lovely theme.
A few suggestions to make it even better:
1) It seems there's a problem with Synaptic Package Manager. The main window contents in the background goes black when certain actions are taken like reloading, upgrading, etc.
2) Unity top panel would look better with the same standard color used in title/tool/menu/ bars as it often assumes such roles, especially when app windows are maximized.
3) Also it would be very nice to use the same blue bgcolor in gtk2 apps (e.g. toolbar) like LibreOffice. - May 08 2015
