Thanks for this great looking theme!
But I must be missing something in my Ubuntu 11.10. I extracted all to the folder /usr/share/themes (although I doubt wow-2.crx and wow-2.emerald are necessary) and I have the unico engine installed.
But I can't see this theme either in Advanced Settings or Ubuntu Tweak. - Mar 26 2012

I've managed to get rid of different background colors in Nautilus toolbar and sidebar by making the following replacements:

1) gtk-2.0 / gtkrc: bg_color:#f0f1f2 => bg_color:#dadbde

2) gtk-3.0 / gtk.css: bg_color #f0f1f2 => bg_color #dadbde

3) gtk-3.0 / settings.ini: bg_color:#f0f1f2 => bg_color:#dadbde

To obtain the same background color in Thunderbird toolbar, folderpane and message header pane, I've inserted the following lines into the file ~/.thunderbird/profile/chrome/userChrome.css:

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");
#toolbar, toolbox, .tabbrowser-tabs {
background-color: #dadbde !important;
}
#folderTree treechildren {
background-color: #dadbde !important;
}

I've also noticed an inconsistency in the selection background colors, which I've corrected by making opening the gtk-3.0 / settings.ini
file and changing "selected_bg_color:#f4677f0" to "selected_bg_color:#4677f0"

I don't know, I may not be using the correct words, I may not be seeing the colors right, and/or my display card and monitor may not be showing colors perfectly ;-)
But my GIMP identified what I call "darker shade of blue background" in the toolbar as "#e3e5e6" and "lighter shade of blue background" in the sidebar as "#f0f1f2".
I think it will be better to show my screenshot with Thunderbird and Nautilus:

Thanks for this great theme!

I have a couple of improvement suggestions which you might consider:

1) Ambiance Blue theme has a nice shade of blue background for toolbars, but the background color in Nautilus sidebar is lighter: it could look more consistent if this is the same as the toolbar background color.

2) The new contender, Marlin file manager, on the other hand, is left without any background color for its sidebar.

3) As for Thunderbird, its toolbar background color is the same as Nautilus sidebar and not the toolbar, which is odd...

It's interesting that this theme works very well with Marlin, but some icons are not displayed in Nautilus, defaulting instead to a blank file icon.
So far I have seen TXT and EML files like that, I don't know if there are more. - Feb 23 2012

Thanks for this nice work!
The result on my desktop (ubuntu 11.10) is however a bit different from the screenshot above.
I have the area used by the conky script on the wallpaper cut out and raised a little bit with a nice shadow around (see http://i.minus.com/ibznSeVOmiqCgA.png)
This looks like a different design choice ;-)
I think it might be interesting to find out how one can make this happen and how one can prevent it ;-) - Feb 23 2012

I think the Adwaita Cupertino theme (SL variant) has gone a long way along this road.
The only apparent difference in this theme seems to be the (OSX-like) background color in the Nautilus sidepane. But this poses a problem at the top and top-right due to the design of Nautilus.
Perhaps joining efforts could help find efficient solutions to issues like this. - Feb 22 2012

No problem. I'll be happy to make such a small contribution.
In deed, on second thought, I've decided to follow the Ubuntu approach with a Mono-Light and a Mono-Dark option with one change: battery icon(s) showing a vertical battery instead of horizontal.
I'd also like to add a little gray to the black dropbox icon.
I can then make tar files of these and send to you later this week if you agree with the above.

Thanks a lot for this great icon theme!
I think a "monochrome" option for the panel icons (as in ubuntu, elementary, oxymentary, etc.) could be very useful, although users can also implement this themselves (for example: http://i.minus.com/ibs3MialgA9KYF.png)

A New Start

This is interesting. I thought you have designed this theme solely for the window layout with titlebar buttons on the right. But when I tried it again now, it worked! Perhaps it was just one of those weird one-off things.

Nevertheless, we can perhaps make some use of this experience.

I thought your nice window visual on the left would swap places with the buttons on the right when the user chooses the buttons to be displayed on the left, but it also remains there, and as a result this version doesn't look the same as the default version. It then becomes more difficult to see the buttons, and that nice visual is somewhat obscured by the buttons at the foreground.

I understand that it might be a little complicated to mirror that visual on the right when left titlebar button layout is selected, but I'm making this suggestion so that perhaps something good may come out of all this fuss I have caused ;-)

I'm glad to hear that your problems are over.
The screenshot which I later removed simply showed a very old (fallback) window theme.
However, I discovered later that it was because I have chosen to display window buttons on the top-left corner.
So it might be a good idea to warn (potential) users that this theme will only work with buttons on the right.
Perhaps you might also consider to support both options in this elegant theme of yours.
Thanks a lot. - Feb 11 2012

I entirely agree with you that it will look ugly if the left border remains like that ( and if there is no way of pushing the side pane down either ;-)

Let's hope that Nautilus will have a better style soon ( or the more stylish Marlin will also be as functional as Nautilus ;-) - Feb 10 2012

I like Marlin for the looks but unfortunately it has some way yet to go in terms of functionality (e.g. extensions) to replace Nautilus as my default file manager.

Meanwhile it could be a good idea to improve the appearance of Nautilus a little bit ;-)

I have collated screenshots of Nautilus, Gedit and Marlin, and also added (at the bottom) a possible modification for Nautilus, which can be seen here: http://i.minus.com/iVmRU2rCbrJuD.png

I wonder if you would agree that removing the left and top border might improve the looks of Nautilus in this elegant theme of yours?

I don't know if and how Nautilus sidepane and toolbar/address bar can be made to look more like Marlin.

As an Ubuntu user, I used to prefer updates through Webupd8team's PPA channel.
But they have been too slow lately: still at version 1.3.4 :-(
So I had to manually update to version 1.3.6 (which is not too difficult, of course, but not as easy as PPA ;-)
As a result, after switching back to the previous (normal) buttons, I've now decided to use the new glassy buttons :-)
And I use them in the Unity Launcher too for consistency.
Great work!

New (and bigger) buttons bring this sleek theme closer to MacOSX looks (perhaps the next step will be using "x+-" inside buttons?)
However, it seems it has also brought a problem with button spacing.
I tried both version 1.3.4 and 1.3.5 with no change.
In all unmaximized windows, the round edges of all 3 buttons are cut off on the right-hand side - see: http://i.minus.com/i5K2TyYk7ufjz.png
It looks like an spacing issue to me. - Jan 31 2012

This has become my No. 1 Ubuntu Unity Theme recently.

Marlin is also becoming my No. 1 File Manager.

However, there's a weird problem that exists neither when I use Nautilus nor when I use other themes in Marlin.

When I try to rename a file, its name is automatically selected but it's not highlighted! There's no way of highlighting there, which makes renaming operation a little bit difficult.

I'll appreciate very much if this can be fixed.

Thank you very very much for this great theme! - Jan 25 2012

Screenshots are very impressive indeed.
So I immediately downloaded and installed it according to the instructions in README.pdf.

1. I said "It seems...", and I didn't make a judgement, but just an additional suggestion for file hosting...

2. I really don't know why you assumed that I made this comment without trying the link first -- I wonder who would do such a ... thing?

3. Actually, I tried the link many times and with many alternatives, as you can see below:

3.1. I first discovered that domain names "www.megaupload.com" and "megaupload.com" have been blocked in my hosts file, which includes numerous entries from several Internet security sources like "SpyBot Search & Destroy"; so I commented out these two entries.

3.2. Although it's no longer blocked, when I try the link (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PG32OAKS) I still get "Oops! Google Chrome could not find www.megaupload.com"

3.3. However, when I try http://megaupload.com/?d=PG32OAKS I see the file name, file size, and a counter below like this:
G-Xiria 3.0.tar.bz2
117.91 MB
00:00:00
But when count down ends, nothing happens.

3.4. I also tried to register for free membership, in case non-members are not allowed to download, but I couldn't complete it as I can't see any buttons like OK, SUBMIT, etc. at the bottom to send the registration form for processing.

3.5. I then decided to try the "Free Rapid Downloader".

3.5.1. Again the link http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PG32OAKS didn't work.

3.5.2. As I was writing this in reply to your message, it suddenly occurred to me that I haven't try the link http://megaupload.com/?d=PG32OAKS with Free Rapid Downloader.

AND THIS WORKED!!!

This whole thing looks like an interesting puzzle...
Nevertheless I managed to find a workaround at the end.

Finally, thank you very much for this great looking Icon Theme!

I use nautilus with its display preferences set to show "size" at the first level. In this way I get an extra line underneath folders and files showing how many items the folder contains or what the size of the file is.

Most themes don't use a different color for this extra line, but the Evolve theme very nicely displays it in grey color underneath the usual black folder/file name.

However, I would appreciate very much if I could further tweak this color (if only I knew which entry or entries in which file(s) I should modify) - Dec 13 2011

A million thanks for this great theme which integrates so well with my Chromium browser (see http://dl.dropbox.com/u/39189022/chromium_zukini.png) while many other themes leave the default blue color in the tab bar.

But I wish it had a similar (seamless) appearance in in Nautilus (i.e. without the left and top separator line in the toolbar), in LibreOffice (without the top separator line in toolbar and format bar, and with the same shade of grey in the format bar), in Thunderbird (i.e. without the top separator line in the toolbar) etc.

I know, this might be partly a preferential matter but I think it is partly a matter of consistency as well.

I would appreciate very much such an "improvement" or a little tweaking help with those separator lines ;-) - Dec 11 2011
