It does indeed look nice, but do you really think that making themes for everything is useful?
KControl must use the default KDE widgets in order to look familiar and intuitive. Some of you are probably using Windows, too, and I guess many of you are angry of those programs that have their own GUI style - e.g. B's Recorder Gold or several driver programs (I bought Nero, allthough my DVD burner delivered B's Recorder Gold 8 because I hated the GUI).

Of course, KControl may have it's own widgets, but in general it should use the default KDE widgets. It's a program, not a website!

What KControl really needs is a new arrangement of it's components, a new, thoughtout layout for the widgets of the components and a plugin interface to make it easy for other programs to integrate themselves into KControl.

But isn't there already a plugin interface in KControl? As far as I remember, you can select 'KControl plugin' as an option when starting a new project in KDevelop. Maybe someone else who's more familiar with that can tell more about it :-/. - Dec 25 2004

Icon Sub-Sets by flow 217 comments

For some days already, da-flow.tk is down. I actually don't know since when exactly, but I know that want this iconset. ;-)
I've already searched via Google, but haven't found anything. Does anyone know another mirror for this beautiful iconset? - Jul 19 2004
KDE Media Center (idea)

Desktop Concepts by djworld 22 comments

Well, actually I'm thinking more of something that replaces the Windows Media Player. Allthough I prefer Winamp on Windoze, I think that the main idea of WMP was better - burning CDs, viewing videos and managing playlists in one app is really nice. You don't have to create and export a playlist if you want to burn a CD, just select the tracks you want to burn and that's it.
But actually, I don't like the idea of having an extra mode for playing audio cds - CDs should be integrated like an artist in the media library. And if you pull a track from the CD to another folder of the media library, it automatically starts ripping. THAT would be a cool thing! - Jul 19 2004

I just installed it, and I like the idea of having everything in one view. But actually, I want my tabs back and don't want the LAN-Browser and the preferences.
How can I modify this theme? And does it override old files or do I have my old settings back when I remove them?

I think, you should supply a README next time where you answer just to these questions. - Jul 18 2004

The Way that KDM should look

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by boskicinek 112 comments

It shouldn't be too hard to realise anymore because Qt 3.3 now supports trancparency. Ok, it already did before, but now you can make it, for example, visible only for 70% with QWidget::setOpacity()!
So I'm shure that the new KDM of KDE3.3 will support transparency. I'm already looking forward to all the nice themes that will come... :D - Dec 19 2003

I LOVE IT!!!
Damn, this is really good work! It's really great.
But there's still something missing on my desktop, and that's the background shown in this screenshot.

damn, I would really like to install this but my Linux doesn't work anymore since I installed Windows XP Pro. But I will install it after I will have installed the new SuSE 9.0 Pro. But the screenshot looks great. You could include my XPish Konquisidebar in the next release, because I added a nice scroll effect. - Oct 16 2003

I just installed it successfully, but there is no page shown in the left. It's only white!
I also tried it with an XML-File, but it's still white. Any ideas why this is so?

Ok, it's not a flash-menu, but it has a nice scroll effect: my XPish Konquisidebar. There are two entries called like that, one is from axeljaeger and the other one, a bit newer, is mine. Just put that Sidebar in there an you'll have a nice scrolling animation ;) - Sep 27 2003

Something doesn't work. When I drag the links into a window where a website is shown, everything works fine and, for example, it loads /home/public/. But if I drag it into a window where my files and directories are shown it doesn't work: instead of opening the link, it gives me the options "copy here", "move here" and so on.
And it's also very uncomfortable that you have to drag&drop instead of just clicking it like it is in the original XPish Konquisidebar. Could you please fix this? - Sep 22 2003

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by mononoke 19 comments

It's okay. I like it. But I think that there is something better:
Open kcontrol. On the left you see a tree structure of links, and on the right side there's a HTML view. Is it possible to put the html view into konqueror? I know that you can change the html-files of kcontrol. But only putting these files in wouldn't be enough, they'd only work if the kcontrol plugin is loaded.
So could anybody put kcontrol into konqueror? this would be great! - Sep 22 2003

Right now I'm creating a version of this nice thing which is easier to edit because it is mostly written in pure html, not in Javascript. The sourcecode is longer, but also much easier. For example, if you want to delete the entry "Webserver root", you can either delete the line or comment it out with two slashs ( // ). But only doing that doesn't work, you'll have to delete the "," in the line above.

But Back2Topic: I really like it. It's very useful! Good work! I don't know why it's not rated at 100%. - Sep 21 2003
