Martin, thanks for this switching layout, which is very nice. I have a couple of suggestions:

1) when pressing Esc to leave the animation, the previously active window should be selected. Instead, the window that is currently highlighted in the animation gets selected

2) when the animation starts, the window that happens to be under the mouse cursor position gets highlighted. In my opinion, mouse cursor should be used to highlight windows after the first mouse movement (i.e., if I use keyboard only, I want to ignore the mouse position)

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with QML and hence I cannot help coding these suggestions. - Nov 09 2012

Just one problem: queries using the IEEEXplore engine do not return any result.

I am using the version in trunk at revision 964. The IEEEXplore engine used to work (from time to time I build kbibtex from trunk), but since some time ago it doesn't work. Unfortunately, I can't tell exactly when it stopped to work.

Could you please check? Thanks a lot! - Nov 25 2011

xbacklight -get returns a real number (e.g., 50.00) while showBrightness requires an integer value. So, I tried:

brightness=$(xbacklight -get | sed -e s/\\..*//)

and it works. Thanks! - Jun 02 2008
Yes, it works, in the sense that I am able to inc/dec brightness and the OSD appears. However, the percentage shown on the OSD is always 0% (maybe you expected this behavior).

If you don't like to use such shell scripts, you may have a look at the source code of xbacklight. It is a simple program that uses XRRChangeOutputProperty calls to change the brightness. So you may use these calls from within your KOSD. Of course, building KOSD will then require some X devel libraries. I know that this solution has some drawback, but AFAIK dcop has been replaced by D-Bus in KDE4, so this solution may be more easily ported to KDE4.

Anyway, thanks again for your app! - May 28 2008
I have a Sony Vaio FZ39VN with Intel GM965. With the sony_laptop module loaded there are two files (brightness and actual_brightness) in /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0 but they are unusable. I can retrieve the current brightness by typing 'xbacklight -get', which shows the current (correct) value as a percentage of the maximum brightness supported. Or, 'xrandr --prop', which shows the absolute values of the current and maximum brightness. To change the brightness, either 'xbacklight -[inc|dec] percentage' or 'xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT abs_value'.

If you need further information, just ask me.
Thanks - May 25 2008

thanks for your app, it is a great replacement for kmilo (which is ugly, non-configurable and doesn't work...). I tried KVolumeOSD and works great.

I wanted to ask you whether you plan to implement the feature of changing brightness (as far as I understand, it is currently possible to show brightness but not to change it). Also, I saw that you use acpi to retrieve the current and max brightness. However, my laptop has an Intel card and the brightness may only be changed via xbacklight. So, would it be possible to implement both ways (acpi and xbacklight) via a configure option or a #define? If you want, I can help implement such a feature.

I find the quick preview feature very useful. When writing papers, however, I would like to quickly have a preview of the current section. AFAIK the current kile version has neither a shortcut for a quick preview of the whole section nor a shortcut to select a whole section. So, I need to manually select the section (quite annoying) and then make a quick preview of the selection. Either a shortcut for a quick preview of the section or a shortcut to select a section would be really great.

BTW thanks for the great app!

Now it works, thanks. Not sure what I did, I just removed the old config file (I upgraded from version 0.2) and rebooted. Thanks for your great application! - May 08 2006
Hi, I get the following problem when launching kwlan 0.4.1:

kwlan: ioctl[IPW_IOCTL_WPA_SUPPLICANT]: Operation not supported
kwlan: ioctl[IPW_IOCTL_WPA_SUPPLICANT]: Operation not supported
kwlan: Failed to set encryption.

I have the wpasupplicant 0.4.8-4 debian package installed. Is there any other package required? or particular kernel options enabled?

Thanks in advance,
