is it possible to add an option to open only one device, like --device=/dev/sda
I'm using this in an environment where devices are presented as single directories, and for non partitioned devices I would like to add the option "open with partitionmanager" to the right clickmenu, and then it would be very nice that partitionmanager open with only one device. - Apr 10 2011

I agree that this section is not the best place for this, but I could not find any beter. But I have to admit I did not search a lot.

It then starts mplayer, but this does not start. I get the error:
Debug: MplayerProcess::parseLine:
'Option vf-add: screenshot doesn't exist'

I have been using smplayer for some time now. Very usefull and handy.
But now my problem. With version 0.5.20 I could open an v4l device (forexample /dev/video0) and it does what I wanted it to do: connect to it and "play" the signal.
But now I've got kde4.0, and I would like to do the same with smplayer version 0.5.62 or the newest (working with qt 4), and it does not work anymore.
Do I overlook something or...

I think there is a misunderstanding. In the setup I'm using the choosing of the channel is done outside my computer. The signal comes to my computer with three audiojacks (white and red for audio, and yellow for video).
When the driver is loaded (ivtv-10) I get some videodevices (/dev/video0, /dev/video24 and /dev/video32). Now I'm connecting with smplayer to them from the Open/File menu (and from Open/Recent files). It would be nice to connect to it in a more sophisticated manner: show a list of videodevices found on the system, and let the user choose.

I'm using smplayer for some time now, and very happy with it. Keep up the good work!!
I'm using it to watch television from my tvcard (hauppage 150) and the ivtv driver.
Now to watch tv I have to open the device (/dev/video0). Could this be done any other way?
For example an overview of all the videodevices available on the system, complete with name (get it from hal/sysfs/udev).

when selected as sidenar in konqueror, it only shows an blue screen.
No text, nothing.
Too bad, cause I'm very interested in this app. I already have kmetabar, and this looks like it very much. Kmetabar is my favourite, but I do not get it compiled using kde 3.5.4.
What to do?

have you heard of Xgl and Xegl? With these new techniques it's very possible.
Only: not so good integration with kde-3.5, but as far I can see much better with kde-4.
Better support in gnome. There are a lot videos on the net where you can see what's possible.

I would like to try this, and I have to install everuthing from source.
Now I've got Mono installed
(and sqlite and gtk+-sharp)
I had to install the latest version of glib and gtk+. No problem, but now when I want to install beagle, it complains it can't find gconf-sharp. When I search I only find links pointing to gtk+-sharp.... I've installed that already.... when I look the source of I find this gconf-sharpe-2.0.pc file is there, but it isn't installed.
The same for gnome-sharpe-2.0.pc.
What's wrong??

I would like to try it, and sadly enough it stops directly after a message saying that my configuration file has two serverlayouts (which is correct).
It can't handle two different layouts. Can you fix thsi?

When I want to run this script, it gives an error: it needs GLIBC version 2.4, and I've got glibc 2.3.
Does not have to be a problem, when I can compile it myself. When I try this, by unpacking the source code which is included in the tar.bz2 file, all I get is compile errors.
(after I corrected the various paths like /usr/include/kde in the various makefiles, because kde is somewhere else on my system)
Can I only compile this with gcc version 4?

I'm sorry.
But when this changes in a few weeks, I'll think about it.

it say's it can't determine the distribution and it crashes.
Is it possible to get around this?
I don't like this, I've LFS 5.1
(LinuxFromScratch). Linux is flexible enough to make general apps which should work on all kind of distributions. In case of doubt let the user decide.
