I am not sure if I understand you correctly, do you want to change color on the folders but not programs,(firefox for example)? If that is the case I'm afraid the answer is that you can't. =( - Sep 11 2010

I see what you mean with the "apply to" part and it is not just you. It's very easy to implement something like "Apply to: Other", all that is needed is implemented in the back-end already. =)

The moblin icons are nice, and it wouldn't be too hard to import the folders into the this theme, thought I don't know how they would look with the rest of the icons. Maybe I'll integrate it along with an option to change navigation icons......

On a side note, I have made a filter that somewhat resembles the moblin icons. It got a few problems like it doesn't scale well to all icon sizes so I have not included it in the release but you can try it out if you want,

save this as a file, import it in the acyl gui and apply from "Code View".

Thanks! If you have any thoughts about the gui I would love to hear them.

And just a little heads up! It has come to my attention that when running the gui in none gnome DEs one runs into some dependency issues, I have already solved the problem but have not had time to put together a new release.

To solve it you have to remove the line that says "import gnome.ui" in the file "~/.icons/ACYL_Icon_Theme_0.9/scalable/scripts/script_gui.py"

I am quite pleased with the gui as it not only look pretty but actually adds some functionality which I just couldn't figure out how to implement in the cli part smoothly. =) - Aug 21 2010

Hi and thanks for taking an interest in the theme.

The commands are nice but personally I would use "cp -d" instead of "ln -s" that way the symlinks point to the source file, but thats just me being a little ocd.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "added to and removed from with each release" could you explain that a little further?

I have a midori icon for the next release so you can cross that off the list. And there should be a awn settings icon in the apps folder, so just renaming it should do the trick. - Jul 26 2010

Hi and thanks for your kind words! I am not quite sure what you mean, are you missing an icon? There is a floppy icon but I do not know if it works as I haven't owned a floppy drive in years....

Anyway the floppy icon is located in the "devices" folder.

Hi, I am glad you like the icons. =)

You have an interesting filter there, however it don't scale well to smaller icon sizes so I'm afraid I wont use it as it is now. Generally I find it hard to use the blur filter because of the scaling issue and gnome renders it strangely sometimes. - Jun 08 2010

Ok, sorry for the version thingy, the next ver is 0.8.3 and it's the one I'm doing all the work in therefor the mix up.

About the output, It is what I expected and it proves that there is something that is not working in the python script. It is possible that it has to do with the new version of python.

Another question, what distro are you using? - May 22 2010

Ok, I have python 2.6.2 so there might be a problem with the difference in versions. Could any one (or both) of you run:

python ~/.icons/ACYL_Icon_Theme_0.8.3/scalable/scripts/script_pycolor

then click ok and report back the output.

Ok, I see why the icons won't work. I have not yet figured out what is causing the problems in the code, might I ask what version of python your running? To find out run "python -V" in the terminal.

When the icons is no longer working, go to /home/.icons/ in here there should be a map called ACYL_Icon_Theme_0.8.2, pack it in a tar file and upload it to a filehosting service,
http://www.filesavr.com/ for example.

Next you post the link you get here in these comments . =) - May 19 2010

Hey! I'm glad you like it. =)

Right now I'm to tired to put together a a detailed guide on how to make the icons correctly, however there is one on page 4 of the comments. It is somewhat outdated but should still be pretty relevant. The most important change is that in number five the tags have been exchanged to:

<acyl-settings>
</acyl-settings>

I recommend looking at the code in the already existing icons and get rid of as much meta-data as possible.

I don't know if I'm making any sense here but good luck to you. - May 13 2010

Oh, simmesimme responded to. Well now you have two explanations. xD - Mar 30 2010
Any Color You Like

Full Icon Themes by switzak 286 comments

Okey, so in the filter file you will find a several functions. Each function is used to activate the filter that is in that function.

Inside a function you will find something that looks like this

temp='<filter
....
....
....
</filter>'

What you will do now is to replace an existing filter with the one simmesimme posted, however it will still have its old name.

To do that, replace everything between the apostrophes (') in the chosen function with the code that simmesimme posted.

Save the file and you should be done. To activate the filter, just do as you usually would do in the script and select the filter that you repalced. - Mar 30 2010

This filter should do it, I find that with a radius below two, gnome does not render the effect on some icon-sizes. With a radius greater then two it will get outside of the iconborder and that would look strange.. =) I might throw this into the next release with a fixed radius of two. =D

@(anyone who might wanna test this filter and don't want to wait)
Just paste it over another filter in the file:
~/.icons/ACYL_icon_theme_ver/scalable/scripts/script_filters
and activate the filter you just wrote over.

Trying this is at your own risk. - Mar 30 2010

Ok, so I have installed thunar. But I am unable to reproduce this behavior you see with your text icons. For me they are just the same monochrome ones I have in nautilus. If I can't reproduce this it is very hard for me to fix it. =/

You could try to find a theme that actually change the icon and from there find out what it's name is.

Sorry I can't be of much help. =( - Mar 18 2010

Yea, please upload a screenshot.

Most likely is that those program looks for a different icon than nautilus, if this is the case I have to find out what icon they are looking for and what it's name is. - Mar 17 2010

Thanks for your comment!

Sorry but I do not understand what you mean by using the ".gtkrc-2.0" file. Could you explaining that a bit more? =)

Also the gconftool is only used to refresh the theme so that one wouldn't have to do it manually. The code to change the icon-theme should still have been executed. If it throws some kind of error that you can't get past you can go into the script file and remove all lines starting with "gconftool-2".

For a future version I will look into making something that checks if gconftool is installed. =) - Feb 27 2010

Unfortunately the dropbox tray icon can't be changed either. This is due to the fact that it is integrated in the source code of the proprietary part of dropbox.

There is suggestion to fix this on the dropbox homepage. This link directs you to where you can vote for the idea using you dropbox account:

These are good, some of them needs a little fixing but not any big problems. =)

The easiest way to help is to keep making icons i guess.

Making filters is also an option. I find it kind of hard to come up with good ones and it doesn't help that gnome and inkscape renders them differently. >.< - Feb 09 2010

Help is always appreciated! =)

Icons that don't follow the icon theme do stand out, especially when the theme has such a distinctive design. So I can understand that you want it fixed. If you find anything I'd be happy to implement it. =D

Regarding those instructions, they where just something quickly written by me and now needs complementing because of the introduction of filters. For the next version they will most likely change again. Just upload the icons when you are satisfied with them and I will take a look at them, and fix whatever needs fixing.

Maybe I will take the time to write a somewhat more complete instruction for the next release but it will probably take some time as I'm kind of busy at the time.

Looking forward to seeing your icons. =) - Feb 08 2010

Thanks! I like that you like this theme. =)

Unfortunately I can't figure out what icon geany use for "save all", none of the themes I have on my computer change that icon. It is kind of strange since most of the other geany icons follow the themes correctly. I will drop this for now as I just don't know how to move on with this problem. If you know/find a theme that change this icon give me a link to it and i will look into it.

There is also the possibility that the icon is embedded in the geany code, if this is the case there is not much for me to do about it.

If you really want this fixed I suggest that you talk to the guys who develop geany and see what they have to say about it. - Feb 08 2010

The pidgin icons are being worked on thanks to one of simmesimme's contribution. I will look into the sonata ones.

A lot of apps don't follow the gnome icon theme in the tray panel. This is the case with these programs(I know at least pidgin have a bugreport about it). To fix this it will need a function in the script, not the best solution but the only one I can come up with. - Feb 07 2010
