Thanks for your comment, and thanks for the missing icon report! The google-chrome icon will now come with the next release. However chrome don't follow the gnome icon setting so you will have to apply the icon manually. Think it's the same with google-earth. =/ - Jan 24 2010

Your icons are now integrated with the rest of the theme and will be shipped with the next release. You can also download them here:
http://www.filesavr.com/iconsedited
I also packed the symlinks for them. =)

The easiest way to help would probably be like you just did. Send in new icons to me. It's kind of hard to cover a lot of app-icons by myself so that is highly appreciated.

As for working on the script feel free to try and implement whatever idea you have. I'll try my best to answer questions. =) - Jan 17 2010

First of all, thanks for showing interests in my icon theme. There are some "rules" as to how an icon should be constructed for my script to work. I will list them here below so you can do it yourself. But if you want you can send the icons to me and I will integrate them myself and ship them with the next release.

I don't know how experienced you are in this stuff but i will try to explain as basic as i can so anyone that is interested would at least have a chance to follow this mini guide.

Also worth mentioning is that for editing/making icons i use inkscape and a normal text-editor. So i will assume you have these tools available. Inkscape is free and a text-editor shouldn't be to hard to get a hold of. =)

Ok heres what is needed:

1. The icon should be in the svg file format.

2. No outlines "strokes" should be used. Well they won't make the script overlook the icon but they won't follow the selected color.

3. For gradients to work over the whole icon and not the separate pieces everything should be in one path. The easiest way for me to do this is to use select all in inkscape and then press "ctrl" + "+".

4. Open the file in a text editor and change "fill:(some color in hex)" to fill:url(#linearGradient1234).

5. Open an icons that already follows the color settings and find the first "<linearGradinet". Copy everything from that line down to the "<def". Paste that above the "<def" in the new icon.

6. For the next release that will be 0.8 all icons should have the width and height of 48 and have a distance to the edge of 2.

I think that covers everything. If you have any more questions i will try my best to answer them. Hope it works out for you. =) - Jan 16 2010

Thanks for your input.

Actually I experimented with outlines back in version 0.2 or something. Then it didn't work out as it just cluttered up the icons. In later versions I have changed the structure of the svg files so it might work now. So thanks for reminding me. =)

However right now I'm working on another feature (which if everything works out will be pretty cool imo) so it won't be implemented anytime soon. - Jan 13 2010

Oh, I see. I haven't made specific icons for those "places". When switching from a theme that has specific icons for those "places" gnome-panel still tries to find the specific icons.

Try to restart gnome-panel by typing:
killall gnome-panel
in the terminal. Or logging out/in.

Now the usual folder icon should be there. If it doesn't work I can release a quick-fix.

For the next release I will consider making specific icons for videos, music etc. - Jan 01 2010

DoMore - memory improvement

Various Gnome Stuff by domore 2 comments

Funny app. One could really waste some time on this. ^^ I fond that memorizing 5 digits in 0.25 sec wasn't that hard. In my opinion it was harder with more numbers and longer time. But maybe it is just me. xD

As for suggestions, you could do a button that gives you another try at the same digits. When I don't get the right answer it bugs me that I don't get to know what is was. =)

Anyway, rated good and I'm looking forward to the other applications. - Aug 03 2009

Metacity Themes by switzak 13 comments

No borders and the arsen icons are good ideas and easy to implement. I will try them out and see how it looks. The hard part would be to offer them as a choice for the user.

As far as I can see there are two ways to do this. Either I release several packages for the different options, but this would become quite hard to managed if the number of options increased.
Or I could do it with an external script like with my icons. However that would make this theme a lot harder to use, especially for inexperienced users.

I will have to think about this. But for now I will try the arsen icons, no border idea and maybe release it in a different package if I like the result. - Jul 08 2009

Thanks for your feedback. Personally I kinda like the folder icons. But I guess it wouldn't be to hard to implement something like the logo switch function but for folder. However that would require some new designs and thats not a priority for the next release, maybe the one after that.

Thanks for your comment.

Here is a screenshot of where I change my border-colors in the color-settings for gnome.

http://pici.se/431098/

I think it might depend on what gtk theme you use. Especially how it defines fg[insensetive] as that is the color used by the borders for this metacity theme. Using gnome-color-chooser might also create this problem.

What gtk theme are you using?

You could try another gtk theme and see if the problem still occur. If it does it's most likley a bug and I will look into fixing it.

If it don't I am probably right about the gtk theme thing and redefining the border-color is an easy task. - Jun 28 2009

First off all, I really dig these colors. I have had the thought of a darkgreenish style to my desktop on my mind for a few days now. This is my thoughts realized! The red color of the icons is also a nice addition. Rated good.

Secondly, really cool to see my icon theme in use!
However I notice that you have different colors for the action icons and the rest of theme. Is this an intentional use of this function or a bug? I'm asking because I have had reports from a friend who had a bug that did this. I have not been able to reproduce it on my own or find the cause of this bug. He fixed it by just setting the action icons to the same color as the rest of the theme, so it's not a critical bug but I guess I will try and fix it if I can find the cause. =) - Jun 12 2009

Nice to hear, looking forward to it. I made a picture to explain what i mean with the pixmap and engine colored ares.

http://pici.se/pictures/WZKyRRIMx.png

Now I don't have any experience with pixmap engines so I'm not to sure how to go about "fixing" this. But maybe add a middle segment to separate the areas, kind of like the thin borders on the buttons. And/or adding some kind of pixmap background instead of having engine colored areas.

Well this is just my personal opinion so everyone might not think this needs "fixing". - Jun 03 2009
Polar Theme

GTK2 Themes by jameshardy88 38 comments

You got something good going on here. I love the buttons and the whole concept is interesting.

Now for the things i think needs improvement. The background for the progress bar has to high contrast in comparison with the rest of the theme. The scrollbar feels a little out of place. Maybe round off the corners? And finally the border between pixmaps and engine colored areas seem kind of sharp, maybe its just my color settings.

I realize this is an early release and look forward to an updated version, whether you take my opinion into consideration or not. =)

Keep up the good work! - Jun 02 2009

Lyrics screenlet

Conky by dencer 339 comments

The new version works very good except one thing. When the lyrics switch to a new line the text flashes in white. Not a big thing really but somewhat annoying. The previous versions didn't have this problem for me.

And I'll take this chance to bring my suggestion up again. To let the "lyrics not found" message fade after a few sec.

All in all I like this screenlet very much, thanks for making and releasing it! - May 23 2009

Thanks for your comment. Putting in different logos is something I have been thinking about as I realize not everybody use Ubuntu. Actually I had planned it for the next release. I'm deciding whether to make different releases for each logo or integrate it into the script. Or maybe both? =)

The rhytembox idea will be taken into consideration. It will dependent on if I can come up with a good design for the new icon.

Thanks for the info about power management. I have a hard time checking stuff like that since I only have a stationary computer.

A blueman icon will be added although not with a sym-link as my script makes them into real files.... I just don't know how to go around that problem, with my nonexistent scripting experience. It would be great if someone could help with this as I think it would reduce the size of the theme dramatically. Just some hint as to what command to use and what operators and such. =) - May 13 2009

I like your icons, they look really good. In fact I would like to use some of them in my own icon-set, so I tough I I'd check with you if it's all right.

Note that my icon-set is licensed under GPL. Is that a problem since you have another license? Wikipedia said that MIT was GPL compatible but I don't know if that means I can publish your work under GPL. - Apr 16 2009
