Sure. In the gtkrc file (~/.themes/Cool Breeze/gtk-2.0/gtkrc), delete or comment out the line that says "gtk-button-images = 0". I believe it's Line 9. - Aug 19 2009

Oh, I'm sorry. I like the theme.

I've been using a black and green hacker-ish theme for late night coding I built using the Excelsior engine for a while. It looks very nice and has lots of options (great for themers like me!)

Also, it's QT integration is great, thanks! - Jun 04 2009

Seconded. This looks almost exactly the same Excelsior, but with a different name. Even the options are alike. - Jun 04 2009

You can use a circular gradient going from Transparent to black on another layer. Then change the opacity of that layer, and you get a neat lit up effect.

You don't need Photoshop to make nice pictures.Just GIMP and a little knowhow! ;) - May 31 2009

Gimp Icon

Icon Sub-Sets by downdiagonal 6 comments

Nice icon! I think this icon makes a lot more sense than some crazy animal head.

A tip to the GIMP folks: change the name and the icon. No one wants to use software called The GIMP. No one cares what the acronym stands for. The icon and their mascot, Wilbur, does not make any sense when trying to recognize the program. Evolution has a mail icon. The GNOME Text Editor has a notepad for an icon. The icons are recognizable. A crazy animal head makes no sense whatsoever. Sorry if my rant is in the wrong place, but I felt this need to be said.

Again, awesome icon. You should show this to the GIMP developers.

NOTE: I always use The GIMP and it is my favorite image editor. - Dec 02 2008

You can change the scrollbars by opening '$HOME/.themes/Synth Blue/gtk-2.0/gtkrc' and commenting out line 758 and uncommenting lines 759 - 761. Basically, lines 758 - 761 should look like this:

758| #class "GtkScrollbar" style "movingscroll"
759| class "GtkScrollbar" style "theme-scrollbar"
760| class "GtkVScrollbar" style "theme-vscrollbar"
761| class "GtkHScrollbar" style "theme-hscrollbar"

just remember not to include the '7xy|'.

I'll make sure to add a give that option in the next release (eg. Synth Blue Type 1, Synth Blue Type 2, Synth Blue Type 3...) so that you can use one with scrollbars you like. - Dec 01 2008

He's right you know.

It matters. This icon set is illegal because it uses proprietary icons created and owned by Apple. It IS illegal.

Most of us care about licensing and freedom. That's _why_ we use Linux, *BSD, etc.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have the mind to say that to someone in real life, so don't say it online. Anonymity and a public forum doesn't mean you can act like an asshole. Stop being an asshole on the internet and "just shut your mouth big shot". - Nov 30 2008

Compact murrine

GTK2 Themes by boy23arg 12 comments

This theme is quite compact for a Murrine theme. My only gripe is slider length and the scrollbar min length. They are hard to hit with a mouse (although I use my touchpad scroll predominantly) and confusing to identify on a crowded screen (like on an IDE with a lot of files/panes/tabs open). - Nov 07 2008

I don't exactly understand what you want (sorry :P). Are asking me to change the color of the progressbars, scrollbars, and such into gray?

In the meantime, please notice that the colors are completely customizable in the Appearance Preferences Dialog.

To get there (you probably know what I am talking about) right-click the Desktop and click Change Desktop Background. Then switch to the Themes tab in the Appearance Preferences Window that pops up and click the Customize button. Another window should pop up with a number of tabs. Click the Colors tab and change the colors around to suit your tastes. - Nov 07 2008

I am sorry that this is giong to sound mean, but the Download button is quite easy to reach on DeviantArt and I'd rather not forsake all the niceties of DeviantArt.

Thanks. All the themes I make for my personal use so I test them and use them for at least a couple weeks/months before releasing them. (Actually most of them don't get released because I don't feel that they are good enough for anybody else)

The blue is intense but you get used to it. You can change it to something softer (like #729CFF for a brighter looks or #6484A4 for a more subdued, industrial look) through the GNOME Color Chooser dialog under 'Change Background> Theme > Customize > Colors'. - Oct 06 2008

Ok, I'm going to answer them in order.

1) This is a limitation in the Clearlooks engine that has been bugging me, but I'll try and solve it.

2) I don't know to fix this without using pixmaps. I'll check the Clearlooks documentation.

3) I personally don't like the Clearlooks classic tabs, but I'll add another version that has them.

4) You can change the color of the menubar by editing the '.panelrc' file in the theme's directory (usually '~/.themes/Blue bard/gtk-2.0'). I'll include an alternate version with the white panel in the next release.

Thanks for your comments. I'll try and fix these up and get a new release out soon. - Oct 06 2008
