I really appreciate you commented ... The point is that I don't want the buttons to blend in the background ;) In fact the whole theme was clean and flat, and I decided to give it a little metal touch. This slight 2 part gradient you see on the scrollbars and inactive tabs. When you make a skin, you can't just draw some squares and shapes, put ssome shadows, etc ... You have to think about the whole consistency, you have to feel its texture : Is it cold, warm, is it plastic or metal ?

It's with a good experience I'm designing this theme, This is original, clean and easy on eyes , but.... you have to learn to appreciate it :) Looking at the rate, I can't help but thinking I'm adressing to the wrong public... :( I though this community needed something original (not engined), not ripped from anywhere. with professional graphics such as the Tango Project, or Element icon set. This theme is clean and can adapt to nearly any wallpaper, it won't kill your eyes, which makes it by definition a good theme...

Sorry, I don't know what to say but by my standards these scrollbars are one of the best I've ever seen on GTK2. Anyway everybody has right to have his own tastes...

Thanks for posting ! ;) - Nov 07 2008

I'm sorry, I don't really understand what is your problem. To set the buttons right, I think you just have to press the "Set Theme Path" button in the Windeco / Dekorator pannel. - Sep 21 2008

You know I though about it. In fact originally all comboboxes were the same as the buttons. Then I though "This is boring, I'll make special eye-candy for the comboboxes based on the panel buttons". I like the final result because there is a real variety of shapes and colors, and all of this still looks fine together. Some people like smooth gradients, some like shiny buttons, some like dark themes, some other prefer clear ones. That's why I tried to build an equilibrium between all of this... Thanks for the tip ;) - Aug 29 2008

Hi!

Sorry for the late answer... In fact styles like domino and QTCurve have different ways to behave with KBFX. This KBFX theme works fine using domino, but as you say, the bottom bar is completly cut and the whole theme circled with window background color when using QTCurve. I'm working on another project for KDE, Opale, which uses QTCurve and I'm having hard time to get it right :D

I really appreciate your work too, especially your KBFX and Moodin themes (that one with Magic Layers is awsome ;) ). I've been working on GTK+ themes lately, it's nice too :)

Wish you success in your further creation ;) - Aug 13 2008

mmm, I think your software repository distribute a patched version from the original domino sources. If you could get the domino sources from this repository I could tell you how to make the same modifications.

About emerald theme, last time I launched compiz it froze after something like 10 seconds : It's ok I've 8 Mo video memory :D So for the moment I can't really do it (I wouldn't be able to tune it fine). If someone wants to port it ? - Jun 27 2008

Well in Domino, images have been converted to C++ code using the qembed tool :) You can check now within konsole, I'm sure you have this tool. Then grab a copy from the domino sources, and open the data.h file. It contains all the converted images codes at the top, and in the bottom their dimensions. So for example if you want to replace the progress bar, draw one in GIMP. Save it, and then just "qembed --images file.png" copy the obtained color codes (0x666...) inside the data.h replacing the previous ones. Then recompile and install. Still you better have several copies of the sources, as it may not work at first. Good luck ! ;) - Jun 11 2008

This is looking really promising so far ;) ! Some little points on the design could use a bit more work (corners of the preview, or the blue "KDE look.org"), but this isn't so important compared to the ergonomy :) Can't wait to see more previews, I wish I could help you but I've got so much stuff to do right now. This layout is perfect, I just entered the coordnates and it's looking as it should be :) The layout from the archive is showing something different though :

[BottomBar]
Height=48
Width=292
X=0
Y=428

[ItemProperties]
CommentMargin=35
IconSize=24
NoComments=false

[ItemView]
Height=296
Width=189
X=103
Y=36

[KbfxButton]
FadeTime=75

[ListBox]
Height=297
Width=103
X=0
Y=36

[MainMenu]
ContractedMenu=false
UserMenuHeight=380
UserMenuWidth=294

[Scrollbars]
ScrollBarBotX=0
ScrollBarBotY=51
ScrollBarTopX=0
ScrollBarTopY=62

[SearchBox]
FixedPos=true
Height=17
Width=160
X=10
Y=350

[ToolBar]
ButtonNormalSize=48
ButtonPressedSize=48

[TopBar]
DisableUserName=true
DudeX=0
DudeY=10
FaceH=52
FaceW=52
FaceX=0
FaceY=7
Height=36
UserNameX=100
UserNameY=50
Width=292
X=0
Y=0

which is wrong. So I guess you just have to paste the layout you posted before into the kbfxlayoutrc and that would be perfect :) Thanx for your support ;) - Mar 19 2008

I guess you're talking about the KBFX theme ? If you already installed KBFX, just right click on it and launch the configurator :) If you didn't add it yet to the kicker you can find KBFX in the applet menu by right clicking the kicker. Well if you didn't install KBFX, you can get it via synaptic, package name "kbfx" as you're on ubuntu, aren't you ? ;) - Feb 20 2008

For kwrite you can set the colors of the font, background, selection in the preferences. I can make a special color scheme for it, maybe tomorrow ;) There is another problem with the desktop tooltips : They are black on black because the desktop use black font in tooltips were it should normally be grey as in the window tooltips. You can modify the color of the tooltip in Kcontrol > Appearance & Themes > Style > Domino and press configure. First tab change the tooltip color to something much more clearer. Well I tried Qtcurve, this is really good if you want to imitate the murrine look, candido and mostly gtk but I didn't succeed to make it look like it does with domino. This is also way faster than domino :) So I think I'll stick to domino. I plan to release it on monday. Initially there will be full support for 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 resolutions as I didn't finished moodin themes for other resolutions. However, KDM themes for 1280x800 and 1400x1050 should be available in addition to the others. Wallpapers will be fully available to all resolutions too :) I guess all the rest should be (domino config, karamba, dekorator, kbfx, color scheme, systray icons). I need to rework the desktop icons so except the folder one, I surely won't upload them on Monday.

Many thanks for your support ;) - Jan 26 2008

In fact I don't quite know what is in the theme package as I can't open it :( I just set the fonts like I want, the icons, color schemes and then I create the package. The wallpaper in the screenshot, is from the Leopard Preview, you can find it on google, it's called Aurora :) I used it because it was giving some light to my desktop, but I'm sure you can find some other good ones on this site ;) For the dekorator windeco, I posted it as another file, you can find it here http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/NanoTekReloaded-Dekorator?content=68813
