Great first theme! (Funny thing, my first theme was a dark theme too, only no color, but I did it in XP.) I see the problem. You might fix it by making the gradient fade to black on both ends. you can use the bilinar blend mode to do that. (in gimp) - Nov 05 2009

Sure! why not? I'm sure someone could fix it, even if there is a problem. I don't know how to fix those thing you mentioned, but I would try looking for a theme closer to what you want, and use it as a base :) That's how I made my first emerald theme. After that, I used my own themes as bases. - Nov 04 2009

I think that the controls are very nice! I think it would look good to make it in only gray tones (or make several hues, such as gray, black, blue, and "human"). I just think the scroll handle is mismatched, with the rest of the controls I mean. The window borders are nicely done, I just don't like that look. I tend to like sleek looking themes, but you did a super job :)

How do you make a metacity theme anyway? or GTK? I have tried, but all I can make is emerald themes.

GDK looks really good :) - Nov 04 2009

Thanks! I didn't know that is was that good :) Well, here is how you do it:

Make a new gimp file with the dimensions of you screen, and make layer all white.

Next, click on the blend or gradient tool and set mode to difference. Set the gradient to the preset: "land 1"
You will also need to set the shape to radial.

Drag the tool from one corner to the other, let go of the mouse button, and go back the other way. Keep repeating, but vary the angles each time. (and I really mean *vary*) After it look how you want it, go to colors> desaturate. This will remove the color. Then goto colors> colorize, and adjust the setting until you like it!

This will take a few tries to get the hang of it, but after a few minutes you will find tons of other thing you can do with this!

Tell me if this doesn't make sense :) - Nov 02 2009

Oh, and thanks a lot :)

I also made a version with tux (not in svg, too big to upload), but I made the tux so... it isn't the greatest. Actually, that "textured look" was only a matter of duplicating all of the shapes and blurring them. - Oct 18 2009

Wallpaper Other by Padster 10 comments

Sort of. Start from scratch, making the picture look similar to your first one. I would start by using the ink tool on one layer, and using the eraser often, make it just the way you want, and then color it. If your b&w drawing is a little messy, put it into inkscape and use the tracer: [SHIFT][ALT][B] Then you can simplify the traced image [Ctrl][L] (you can repeat this as many times as you like) and export it. And please don't listen to certain comments. Someone should teach them some manners ;)

You really have good ideas, but you just have to work at them more. I have been trying to do this for years (in windows) , and only recently I could make something half decent. - Oct 15 2009
AaaaAAuaaaAAAaAaahh! (skydiving)

Wallpaper Other by Padster 10 comments

Well, the windows could get better. I would make them more parallel. Also, I would make the picture entirely in gimp. No tracing. It will turn out better that way. If you want I can tell you how I paint in Gimp, but real quick I use lots and lots of layers (base, color, background, shadow, light,s ect.), and the flatten them at the end to fine tune it. Try looking at you original picture and fixing the perspective. You might even want to arrange blocks to see how it should look. That good for a mouse though! You might be able to get a cheap tablet for $50 like it did. Still, the mouse will end up doing the fine work because the tablet will jump around a little. Keep working at it :) (you should have seen my fist attempt at painting in gimp xD I won't even post it it's so bad.) - Oct 15 2009

bumper, I think that you are right! Windows sure isn't the best OS on earth, but I think that the aero look is very attractive! It is very good, no mater what you hear other people say ;) Besides, you don't even have the windows logo on it!

Why don't you make another one with tux in it? I made one, but mine looks more like the Win $even button, not at all like this. - Oct 07 2009

Ubuntu Ultimate

Wallpapers Ubuntu by equinsuocha 11 comments

I don't know about this. I don't agree with the rather inappropriate wallpapers that are sometimes associated with ubuntu wallpapers, but I don't think it is right to blame ubuntu (on purpose or not) for this. If you look on their site you will NOT see any of that sort of thing. I am not a "nOOb" either. I don't know why you are spending your time raving about this, because you can't do anything about it. Just so you know, Ubuntu art is common BECAUSE most people with gnome have ubuntu. I agree to vote down bad wallpapers, but putting down ubuntu and its users and artwork (which you are doing) isn't right. Blame the people who did the horrible stuff, but not just someone who uses the ubuntu logo.

Don't take this wrong, I just want to make it clear how rude you are being to innocent ubuntu artists.

One more thing... Gnome is for linux, so I don't think it is bad to make something based on linux. I thought the windows hater group was rude, but you are attacking ubuntu art? - Oct 04 2009
